We strive to build a strong community that elevates religious reporters and journalists and promotes collegiality. In doing so, we seek to reinforce the mission of providing journalists around the world with the tools and resources they need to cover religion in a balanced, accurate and insightful way.
To help us achieve these goals, all members, board members, event attendees, staff and guests are required to abide by a code of conduct that includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Our organization requires respectful communication at all times and will not tolerate harassment in person or online.
This code of conduct aims to protect individuals from hate speech or harassment. Criticism of a country’s policies, institutions or philosophies is considered an important part of political and religious dialogue.
REPORTING
Individuals who are victims of, witness to, or suspect criminal acts are encouraged to immediately contact law enforcement. At events, individuals should also report incidents of suspected criminal activity or other harassment to any of the following officials: staff, board members, and persons assigned to special events. The outcome of the incident will be communicated to the affected parties and may include 1) a verbal warning 2) exclusion from online and in-person events 3) permanent or temporary exclusion from membership. Members may appeal the outcome of a suspension in writing to the board for consideration at the next regular board meeting.
We work to promote excellence in religion reporting through our annual conference, annual competitions, mentoring and beat resources. We envision a global community of journalists who advance religious literacy in the media. We encourage vigorous debate and frank discussion, expecting members to respect each other’s dignity in words and actions.
